Overcoming Writer's Block

Overcoming Writer's Block

To be able to write on this topic which was given as a task by Ruth Ikegah, I had to ask myself this question, " Why did I start blogging in the first place?".

A friend once advised me to write down all that he explained to me whenever I came to him for clarification on a topic, because even though I would understand all that he taught me, not writing those things down because I had understood them always made me come back to him for the same solution over and over and over again. Blogging about what I just learned or had learned in the past showed me the relevance of his advice.

I have found certain points to be responsible for writer's block

Vagueness of a topic

Not knowing much or anything about a topic definitely leads to writer's block. The solution to this is seeking clarity about the topic(read it up or discuss it).

Fear of the topic not being good enough

This happened to me last night when I was writing on Golf Code. The solution to this is knowing that the article is firstly for you. When I applied this solution by reminding myself that I wouldn't want to start cracking my head for an explanation to some topics, I damned the consequences, and guess what? When I started writing on it, the more I wrote, the more I had more ideas to write on ๐Ÿ˜‰. In the end, did it help others? Yes it did ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Not knowing what topic to write on

I find this one tricky because whenever I said that I had no topic in mind to write about, it was because I feared that the topic might not be good enough to be written. If this is the case, then I advise you do this. However, if you really don't know what to write on, the solution will be to ask people what topic they need clarity on. They could be your friends, colleagues, or developer community members. Hashnode has a column named 'RFAs: Requests for Articles'. You can look at the ideas people would need clarity on, select the one you have a basic understanding of, and write on it. Remember my advise here.

Inadequate sleep

Poor sleeping patterns can lead to difficulty in concentration and productivity. Having a deep sleep or resting is not a sign of laziness. We should start seeing sleep and rest from a positive point of view, as a strategy to achieve faster, more accurate, and innovative results (some great scientists figured out their inventions in their sleep ๐Ÿ˜Ž). We should not allow anybody to bully us into thinking that wanting a good sleep means we are lazy.
